It said something like "shell thumbnail" or similar. pdf previewers for a moment and I noticed I was still able to preview them. I was just learning about the way that the preview pane plug-in (ActiveX + Preview + Office + Web) works and I was able to set my standard PDF editor (Bluebeam) as my default program and Sumatra PDF as my viewer pane utility, which allows for some lovely fast loading (Bluebeam previewer was sluggish).
